Hi! I have a project which involves connecting a Logitech QuickCam Sphere to a Blackfin BF537 using USB cables and capturing a frame from the camera.

After that i need to save the image in a predefined format: jpg, png or whatever. My question is whether it is possible to finish this project using only Visual DSP++ or is it necessary to use the ucLinux (form what i know there are some drivers: fcd and ppifcd).

I am rather new to this, so any advice or helpful links would be great.

Thanks.

the fcd/ppi drivers are only for devices connected to the PPI.  since you're using USB, they are useless.

first you need to see if your USB camera works on your Linux desktop (i.e. make sure the kernel supports the device).  if it does, and assuming it exposes a V4L device, find some simple command line utils to capture an image via V4L into like a JPEG.  there are a bunch out there.
