Hi:

is X11 supported on Blackfin? I have a specific app in mid which pops a window on remote X11 terminal. Originally this app was developed on a regular workstation. I am not sure if it is possible to port this app to an embedded Blackfin environment. I read description of MicroWindows (now The Nano-X Window System) and I am confused. The web page seems to suggest that Nano-X works locally and it displays on a local screen connected to Blackfin. This is not what I want. I rather want to display on X-term connected over Ethernet. Could you please clarify whether it is possible to use Nano-X this way?

Thank you -- Wojtek

i havent heard of anyone bringing up the standard X11 stack.  it's generally huge, both in filesystem and in memory resources.

i havent heard of people using Nano-X in a client/server model, but that doesnt mean it isnt supported.  you'd really have to read the source and/or ask on the upstream mailing list.  although you arent really clear on where you want the server running and where you want the client running.

a simple grep for "DISPLAY" in the source would probably lead you to some answers.

Mike: thank you for the hint. I will explore. The application which I have in mind is named Ofront. It is basically a port of the original Oberon System. It is running on the target system and displaying on the remote X-terminal. I guess it means that the target system is the client and the remote X-term is the server. The app is pretty lean in terms of the display. It manages a single graphical window. It does not require any fancy desktop managers and the like. The plain vanilla X would suffice.

if the Blackfin is the client, it will probably simplify things greatly as you wont need to run the X server (and thus screw with video drivers).
