Hi,

 

We build the 2007R1 distribution with timer ticks of 10ms & we see that on doing some specific task, cpu% (on issuing top command) shows 10%.

 

If we build the same distribution with timer ticks as 1ms, then we can see for doing the same task cpu % shows 20%.

 

Can anyone suggest what might be the cause.

I'm certainly no expert. But if I had to guess, I'd say that by changing the tick from 10 ms to 1 ms, you're forcing the kernel to execute 10 times as much as it normally would, leaving you a lot less CPU cycles free for other tasks.
