2008-04-21 22:31:42     Startup Time - Power up to Ethernet Communications

Daraius Hathiram (UNITED STATES)

Message: 54661    Considering using ucLinux Blackfin on a project that requires a very fast startup time (5 secs).

Typical Linux boot times are much slower than this.  Can anyone shed some light on where the time is spent and estimate the fastest achievable boot time ?

Need to be able to communicate over TCP/IP within 5 secs after powerup.  Lets ignore the overhead of a bootloader for now.

Thanks,

Message: 54663    i dont know what systems you've been reviewing, but 5 seconds is easy.  certainly the boot up times for desktop Linux systems are not applicable.
