The VMU is responsible for monitoring the voltages on VDD_INT and VDD_EXT and providing a fault in the event on a power failure or event. When the VMU determines a fault is present, it sends the Power Down signal to the on board flash to protect it from corrupting.

Once the Fault is issued, the flash has been powered down and the only way to reset the fault is with a power cycle or a reset of the processor. It cannot be done in software as the flash has been powered down, and the ADSP-CM41x executes from that flash.
