Q:

I've recently upgraded to VisualDSP++ 5.0 from VisualDSP++ 3.5 or earlier. My license.dat file was copied over during installation, but only Simulator sessions are now available. Why?

-----------------------------------------------

A:

VisualDSP++ 5.0 allows license.dat files from VisualDSP++ 3.5 and earlier versions to be copied over during installation. Unfortunately, VisualDSP++ 5.0 does not understand the now obsolete licensing package definitions contained in these files, and this results in only simulator sessions being enabled.

There are two ways to resolve this. You can either:

1) Send a copy of your <install_path>\System\license.dat file to processor.tools.support@analog.com and we will modify it to allow you to continue using VisualDSP++ 5.0.

Or

2) Move your existing <install_path>\System\license.dat file to another directory, then reinstall and revalidate your license serial numbers. The advantage of this method is that you can make use of the new VisualDSP++ 5.0 licensing features. You can find dertails of all the new licensing features in the "What’s New in VisualDSP++ 5.0" section (page 1-4) of our Licensing Guide.  There is also a section entitled, "Upgrading to VisualDSP++ 5.0 from Earlier Versions", (page 1-5) which you may find useful.

The VisualDSP++ Licensing Guide can be found in your VisualDSP++ installation here:
Start->All Programs->Analog Devices->VisualDSP++ 5.0->Documentation->VisualDSP++ Licensing Guide.

NOTE: If you are using VisualDSP++ 5.0 on a Windows Vista system then we would recommend that you read EE-330, ‘Windows Vista Compatibility in VisualDSP++ 5.0 Development Tools’, available in our Application Notes section for each processor.
