ADSP-SC58x DSPs have an on-chip solution in form of an Oscillator Watchdog to monitor the CLKIN to the processor. This is to ensure that the Clock going to the processor is within certain specified limits in terms of frequency and also to make sure that the processor is getting continuous clock on its CLKIN pin.  The Oscillator Watchdog detects the absence of input clock transitions and provides a fault warning to the SOC.  Under programmable control it will also detect and report input oscillator frequencies above and below specified limits, in order to specifically detect harmonic or sub-harmonic crystal oscillator behavior.
