Q:  Does the Blackfin processor have hardware support for IEEE 1588?

----------

A: Yes, the Blackfin BF518 embedded processor includes a PTP_TSYNC engine enabling hardware assisted IEEE 1588 clock synchronization.  More information on the BF518 IEEE 1588 hardware capabilities can be found in the BF518 data sheet and BF518 Hardware Reference Manual.

----------

Q: Does Analog Devices provide software for the BF518 PTP_TSYNC engine?

----------

A:  Yes, ADI does provide an IEEE 1588 example project as part of the VDSP++ 5.0 Development Software (supported in VDSP++ 5.0 Update 6 and later).  This example project is based on the open source PTPd IEEE 1588 protocol stack.  The example project includes a PC version of PTPd to support running the example with only a single BF518 EZ-KIT Lite.

----------

Q:  The PTPd IEEE 1588 software only supports IEEE 1588-2002, is there a software solution for applications requiring IEEE 1588-2008?

----------

A:  Yes, an IEEE 1588-2008 PTP protocol stack is commercially available from IXXAT.
