LTspice 26.0.2 for MacOs uses too much memory

Category: Software
Product Number: LTspice
Software Version: 26.0.2

With the update from LTspice 17 to 26 on macOS, LTspice now includes many features from the Windows release. However, memory usage has increased significantly. A simple CMOS inverter using the sky130A PDK (translated from ngspice to ltspice): RAM usage has increased from 100MB to 1GB! As circuit complexity increases, RAM usage increases hugely, up to 5Gb for only 5 inverters!

I imagine that, to update LTspice to the same Windows version, designers may have needed to use Rosetta 2, but I would like to ask whether this huge memory increase is expected behavior. With these memory requirements, I may no longer be able to use LTspice on macOS.

I am simulating the CMOS_Inverter circuit in the sky130A folder from my repository

Not sure. I'll have to check.

  • LTspice uses more RAM as I open schematics; even after I close a schematic, RAM usage stays high. As I open a new schematic, RAM keeps increasing. It seems LTspice never releases RAM.

Starting LTspice at idle consumes around 270MB of RAM; as I open and close example schematics, the RAM usage keeps increasing:

    Idle: 273MB

    Schematic 1: 315MB

    Schematic 2: 431MB

    Schematic 3: 556MB

    Schematic 4: 660MB

    Schematic 5: 790MB

    Schematic 6: 911MB

    Schematic 7: 1,016MB

    Blank Schematic: 1.1GB

These are only opening and closing schematics, not even simulating them.
