Most components missing

Category: Software
Product Number: 24.1
Software Version: 24.1.9

I had LTspice XVII installed on a computer, and recently updated to the latest LTspice 24.1. I ran the new LTspice, started a new schematic, and tried placing a capacitor from the toolbar. Nothing happened. Tried a resistor. Nothing happened. Opened the Edit>Component dialog box, and there are none of the regular components available to place (cap, res, voltage, current, etc.), but only some subdirectories with a handful of components in them. Under "C:\Program Files\ADI\LTspice" there is a "lib.zip" file with what appears to be all the components, but LTspice doesn't show them to me as components to be placed. I've uninstalled LTspice and reinstalled it, but still have the same problem. I'm guessing that something is fouled up in the registry maybe. I've used LTspice 24.1 a pretty good bit on a different computer, so have done a successful installation before, but on this new computer so far I can't use LTspice. Does anyone know what to suggest? Is there a registry location I need to flush after uninstalling LTspice, before reinstalling?

  • By doing some comparing between the computer I usually use for LTspice, and the computer with the new LTspice installation, I found that the LTspice installation had for some reason not properly unzipped the "lib.zip" folder under "C:\Program Files\ADI\LTspice\" to my "C:\Users\trike\AppData\Local\LTspice\" folder. So, I unzipped both the "lib.zip" file and the "examples.zip" file from "C:\Program Files\ADI\LTspice\" and used the two unzipped folders to replace the "examples" and "lib" folders under my "C:\Users\trike\AppData\Local\LTspice\" folder. Now all appears to be working well.

The LTspice support team will want to pass this along to the LTspice developers so that they can perhaps figure out how to be sure the "examples" and "lib" zip files are properly unzipped to the ".\AppData\Local\LTspice\" folder when updates from older LTspice installations are done (when I did the update check, LTspice said I hadn't updated in 684 days).

  • Hi  ,

Usually, if the file is not unzipped, the computer/directory has been set up for higher security in that directory or volume.
