LTSpice 17.1 does not simulate, "stalls" but 17.0 does simulate

Category: Software
Product Number: LTSpice
Software Version: 17.1.8

I recently installed LTSpice 17.1.8 and tried to simulate a circuit that worked fine with LTSpice 17.0.36.0, but it stalls out at ~165ms and never completes.  I did a compare of the Control Panel parameters and do not notice any differences. I'm not sure why the new version does not work with my circuit.  I have attached the schematic file and the log file.  I tried on 2 different W10 machines  with the same result.

Of note, he default parts library must have changes, because D1 (BAS40HM) is no longer in the library.  I used BAS40HY and also added BAS40HM, but nether changes made a diffrence.

  • Hi  ,

There are a lot of changes made to improve in LTspice 17.1.x from 17.0.x. Unfortunately, due to the existing bugs/issues from the old version, the models developed using that version is made such that it will avoid or have a workaround not to trigger those bugs/issues. With the release of the 17.1.x, those work arounds may or may not cause issues. This is probably what cause your problem.

I will report this issue to the part owner and them checked the model of LTC7804.

I am quite curious though why do you need to run your simulation for 165ms transient time, I don't see any event from your schematic that will change at that point like dynamic loading or line distortion. Do you mean 165us?

I suggest you use the old version for now while we fix the problem with this model. Both LTspiceXVII (17.0.x) and LTspice (17.1.x) can exist as a separate application on your machine. so there should be any problem.

just keep in mind that 17.0.x will no longer update its library. thus when this item is resolved, only 17.1.x will get updated.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

  • Hi PaulDaria,

Thank you for the response.  Yes, I meant say 165µs, sorry about that.

Well, I restarted my computer this Monday AM (probably the first time since the install) and now the simulation works like the older version.  I would consider this resolved. The only difference is with D1, the BAS40HY is not in the new version's (17.1) library.  Let me know if you need any more information.

    Thanks!
