LT3790 Demo circuit convergence issue

I'm trying to run the LT3790 demo circuit in LTSpice.

It runs fine if I leave everything as "standard" , but if I change V1 (the supply voltage) to a PWL or any other voltage source

the circuit fails to converge.

Any help appreciated.

    If this is the convergence issue that you encounter, you can just press the ESCAPE key. this…

    I tried changing V1 to a PWL source with 20V at the beginning of the simulation and found this,

    If this is the convergence issue that you encounter, you can just press the ESCAPE key. this will skip the Initial DC operating point and proceed with the transient calculation. This often happen when the ckt is having difficulty finding the initial DC operating point. 

    After pressing the ESC key, I get the same result as a normal Voltage source.
