LTSpice XVII (Updated on Aug 8 2019) does not start on Windows 10

I downloaded LTSpice XVII from official website, installed it. However, it does not start when I click on it. I tried many solution suggestions, still it is same.

Have you tried to install it again?

LTspice works on my PC. I updated it with "Tools -> Syn Relase" today.

Now I re-installed LTspice with the link below for a test. It worked too.

LTspice has reported version July 30 2019. The newer updates were only model updates.

  • Hi Helmut,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I re-installed it many times -tried it just now one more time with the link you sent-, but same issue goes on. I click the LTspice icon, still nothing starts.

    Hello Hakan,

LTspiceXVII requires WIN 7,8,10. It will not work on WIN-XP.
    If you have WIN7, 8, 10, there is a version for 32bit and a version for 64bit.
Please try both. Therefore navigate with the WIN file explorer to the installation directory.

    In my case it's
    C:\Program Files\LTC\LTspiceXVII

    Maybe on your PC it's

Try to start XVIIx64.exe. If it doesn't start, then try to start XVIIx86.exe.

  • Hello Helmut,

both after an update and after a "fresh" installation, I can (on two different computers) only run the program under admin rights. The program is from 07/15/2020 / 23:34:04.
The last version that can be run under user rights is from 25.03.2020 / 08:46:58.

If I run the "new" version under user rights, it crashes.

Here is a corresponding debugger listing.

I'm not sure how to help you with your Windows 10 issues - I've installed LTspice on several different Windows 10 environments with no troubles.  I'm not sure what's causing the issue here.

    A few suggestions:

    1) You could try running sfc from command prompt.  I've often been able to fix strange windows issues by running sfc -

    2) You could try posting your issue to - there are many LTspice users there, and maybe someone has had a similar experience to you.
