About operating modes

The AD-96TOF1-EBZ has 3 operating modes:

  • NEAR: 20cm - 80cm
  • MID: 80cm - 3m
  • FAR: 3m to 6m

Question:

What are the principles of these operating modes? For example, in far mode, there is no data within 3m. Is it because this mode does not receive the reflected light within 3m?

Each of the three modes uses different settings in terms of number of active lasers, laser pulse width and timing between the laser pulses and the shutter triggering. The delay between the laser pulse and the shutter determines the minimum distance that can be sensed, and this is why for far mode there is no data for less than 3m. Another factor that determines the minimum distance is the laser power leading to sensor saturation for anything that is below a certain distance.
