AD9106 - Pulse generation - controlling the rise and fall time

I am planning to use AD9106 for the MOSFET Gate drive application. 

Requirements. 

- Generate the square pulses with variable frequency, Amplitude, and Variable duty . One thousand ns Rise and fall time.

- The variable frequency ranges from 1Khz to 500 Khz. 

Assume I am generating 1Khz Pulse with the following timing. 

Here are the questions: 

- Using the AD9106 generating the 1Khz, is it possible to generate the desired frequency closely and accurately? 

- If possible, what will be the desired sample rate for the 1 kHz that can be accommodated to a given memory? 4096x12 bit

- Is the rise/fall time of the pulses controllable to the desired level using this AD9106? At minimum, we want 1000 ns rise / fall time for 1 kHz pulse. Is it possible to achieve this at what sample rate? 

- We need a adjustable duty from 10 % to 90 % .on the frequency range of 1 Khz o 400 Khz. Any limitation with AD9106 to achieve this. 

Are there any calculator sheets available to work out the above requirement for generating an SRAM pattern? Specifically, given the frequency and ramp time, what will be the data rate, optimum samples, achievable frequency as compared to the set frequency, etc.?

    Thank you for your interest in AD9106. It's possible to generate a 1kHz square wave with the AD9106. Generating the square wave will need to be done from SRAM. The accuracy, however, will depend on the resolution of the waveform, which will rely on the number of SRAM addresses used and the DAC frequency/sampling frequency used. The sampling rate can be arbitrary, so long as the resulting length of the pattern is within the max number of SRAM addresses (4096) in AD9106.

    The sample square waveform below is a 1kHz square wave with Fdac = 1 MHz. 

    There is no option to vary the rise/fall times in square waves. The rise/fall times would follow the dynamic performance as specified in the datasheet regardless of the frequency of operation. This makes the rise/fall times at ~3.25 ns to generate the square wave. If you require variable edge/ramp times, you will need not a square wave but an arbitrary waveform signal to be generated from SRAM. I will follow-up with a sample waveform through your email for your reference. 

    In relation to the square wave output: Duty cycle is also not configurable in AD9106. To generate a square wave with a different duty cycle, you will need to generate a new vector in SRAM. It is possible though to generate a square wave at the range 1-400 kHz range. 

    You may refer to FAQ 10 in this link (AD9106 / AD9102 Low-Power DAC and Waveform Generator: FAQs) to generate the data vectors. We usually recommend data pattern generator softwares such as DPG Lite or the ACE Vector Generator Tool developed by ADI (found thru this link: ACE Software) to generate the vector so that you could configure the waveform to your liking (amplitude, frequency, type of waveform, data format, etc.)
