AD9854-ADRF6701-03 Interface

Hey Guys,

You are doing a great work out here.

However I have a query which I think I'm sure of. But still I am confirming if this can work?

I have been asked to use AD9854 with ADRF6701-ADRF6703 for this purpose instead of the Up-converter used in the Application Note attached to generate higher frequencies for the communication/Jamming purpose. I am hereby attaching the block diagram of the setup I want to use with the comments in the same PDF file..

Please have a look and I'm sure this will help other engineers to generate the higher RF frequency the correct way.

If you have some other better ICs, Methods, Approaches to generate higher SSB frequencies, please share.
  • The AD9958 and AD9959 are multi-channel DDSs like the AD9854. However, the AD9958 and AD9959 both have independent phase offset adjustment whereas the AD9854 does not. The AD9854 outputs quadrature signals but does not compensate given phase imbalances due to filtering and an imperfect phase balance at a analog quadrature modulator input for upconversion. Therefore, having independent phase control in both signal paths can enhance SSB suppression.

    The AD9958 and AD9959 sample up to 500MSPS.

    The AD9910 is another DDS to consider. It does not have internal multiple channels but you can synchronized multiple devices for quadrature signals. The AD9910 samples up to 1GSPS.

    Finally, new DDSs, the AD9914 and AD9915 are releasing in July 2012. The AD9914 and AD9915 will sample at 3.5GSPS and 2.5GSPS respectively. The preliminary data sheet is on the ADI website now.

  • Depnding on the range of your hopping frequencies, another option might be to use aliased images in higher nyquist bands.  See AN-939.
