AD9914 heat dissipation (eval board)

Hi,

The AD9914 has an exposed pad (EPAD) at the back of the chip. This is soldered to the ground and the main purpose is for thermal relief.

Let me check first in the lab regarding the chip's temperature. I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

I was able to bench in the lab and here is the result:

Enabled mode

3.3V rail @610mA

1.8V rail  @300mA

Package Temp is 42°C

On the boards that we tested, these are typical values of the set-up condition so no need to worry.

Also, the AD9914 has an exposed pad which is used for thermal relief purposes.

And this is at 3.29 V, 517 mA + 1.79V 166 mA. And yes I did solder the gnd pad. If I apply Fahrenheit to Celsius conversion on this value, I'm slightly below your 42°C. We use a 4-layer pcb with excessive gnd. My board has fever and so do I. Any encouraging words / hints are stronly welcome !

Just want to ask whether your AD9914 has an output?

These suggestions might also help and is worth a try:

1. Can you double check the soldering of the pins of AD9914?
2. Can you take temperature measurements of the whole board to check if any other boards are also heating up?
3. A heat sink installed on top of AD9914 would help dissipate the heat
