AD9832

I am looking to use the AD9832 as a local oscillator in a 50R system. It seems to me that the output current is too low to use with 50R mixers requiring > 1.4 V drive. This drivers the need for additional gain / driver stages which may introduce phase errors / distortion into a good signal chain. Has anyone addressed this problem ? It seems that the old AD7008 with a 40mA output current was a perfect solution and I wonder why it was obsoleted ?

  • Hi,

the AD9832 current source is not high enough for your requirements.

the recommendation is to add an output buffer if you need to drive 50 ohms impedance.

answering your last question, probably was obsolete due to the number of customer... there is a much more effective way for IQ modulation.

    Best Regards,
