I have an AD9831 and would like to know the precise procedure to program the IC. Is there a design note on how to program the AD9831? Does someone have the procedure? Thanks!

I'm sorry but I couldn't find a step by step procedure that you are looking for. Kindly tell me at what part of the hardware interface are you confused with and I would start helping through that.

Hi LouijieC: I too have the 16 page data sheet that shows that flow-diagram and went through it as best I could. It gives me a hint but not much more, at least for me. I'm looking to just generate a single frequency at a time, nothing like FSKing, etc, which the chip is capable of. Some of the other DDS chips have more info on programming. The companion chip, AD9832 is similar in design but has a serial interface and an evaluation board is available as well, but not so with the AD9831. I'm not using a microprocessor on the parallel input pins that do the programming, so I will have to study the diagram and notes more and fiddle with it I guess. If you can think of something better certainly let me know... otherwise, I appreciate your reply.

Hi Peter,
We'll be glad to help, just post in the thread anything that isn't clear.

LouigieC I forgot to mention this: I dont yet have the chip in hand, 2
samples are on their way and I have yet to set up a test fixture, etc to
begin evaluation. So my original question may seem a bit premature, but I
did study the data sheet and thought Id ask my question ahead of time to
get a heads-up.
When I receive the chips I will begin setup and perhaps by that time and
studying the flow diagram more I will have a better feel for whats involved.
In the meantime I hope I can contact you again if I have a question after I
have a setup in place ?
Thanks again,
Regards
Peter
