Q1: As the AD74416H automatically switches between power supplies is there any visible glitch on the output?
A1: No glitch is visible when transitioning between two power supplies. The Adaptive Power Switching (APS) block has inbuilt hysteresis and actively transitions between two power supplies rather than rapidly switching.
Q2: Is it possible to use a single high-voltage AVDD power supply?
A2: It is possible to use a single AVDD power supply, when APS functionality is not required. In addition, if the part is used in Unipolar Vout mode, AVSS can be as low as –2.5V, however it is still required and cannot be set to 0V.
Q3: Is the APS feature independently used on each channel?
A3: APS is an integrated feature with operation per channel. While the Voltage rails AVDD_HI and AVDD_LO are shared across all channels. Each channel can switch to different AVDD_x voltage rail independently of each other.
Q4: To what extent does AD74416H support diagnostics?
A4: Standard functions like Watchdog Timer, CRC checker and voltage monitoring of number internal and external nodes are supported. The AD74416H can be used to measure an auxiliary voltage to allow the part be used within safety critical redundant designs.
Q5: Is it possible to get 40% power savings across the complete range of operation?
A5: There is a 40% reduction in power within the worst-case scenario.
Q6: What is the product lifetime?
A6: Many of our industrial products are designed into solutions for >30 years. ADI has a policy of rarely discontinuing parts.
Q7: Is it necessary to use 4 (or 3) screw terminal pins to operate AD74416H?
A7: The AD74416H can operate from as little as 2 screw terminal pins to perform the majority of use cases. Many users will adopt 3 pins (I/OP_x, I/ON_x and VSENSEN) allowing measurement of 3-wire RTDs, in different modes than 3W RTD VSENSEN can be used as auxiliary ADC input. The 4th pin is used only in case of Voltage output mode in 4 wire sensing configuration, to compensate voltage drop on the current carrying wires.
Q8: This appears like a premium product. Are there any variants planned with lesser functionality/performance?
A8: We may define a number of specials based on customer interest, with the same pinout and register map.
