The conversion time is related to the temperature resolution, for example 12-bit resolution has a conversion time of 200ms but 9-bit resolution has a conversion time of only 25ms. Therefore you must give the MAX31723 enough time to complete a temperature conversion before starting communication as the converted temperature will not load into the temperature register while the SPI/3-wire interface is active.
