The MAX6698 has fixed slave addresses. There are four different variants of the part (Suffixes E34, E38, E99, E9C) each with a different fixed slave address.
Therefore, as the addresses of each slave on a bus must be unique, you can only have up to four MAX6698s on a single bus at once.
