Question
1) I have a question about AD2S1210 software reset register, I would like to know, if I want use it to do a software reset, what value should I writeinto the register.
2) Another question is that, can I use the software reset method to clear the fault. Datasheet page 28 shows the steps to read and clear faultregister. And page 23 says software reset will also reset the fault register, so I would like to know does it has the same function of clearing faultregister as using page 28 method?3) The customer trys to clear the fault register by using either the standard method or reset method. But the bit 1 in fault register (Phase errorexceeds phase lock range ) can not be cleared.
Answer
1)Addressing the software reset register, that is writing the 8-bit address, 0xF0, of the software reset register to the AD2S1210 while inconfiguration mode, allows the user to initiate a software reset of the AD2S1210. Therefore, you shouldn’t write data to this register but you onlyneed to write 0xF0 address to the AD2S1210.
Please be aware that ‘track time’, Table 27, also apply to the software reset.2) Yes, the software reset will also clear the fault indicators in the fault register however you should use ‘standard’ method of clearing the faultregister as the software reset has also other purposes. Please bear in mind that the software reset will reinitiate the Type 2 Tracking Looptherefore the AD2S1210 will require some time to settle the position. Moreover same timings apply to the software reset as to the hardware resettherefore you won’t be able to read back the position data for some time after sending software reset command.I wouldn’t suggest using software reset as a clearing fault register mechanism.3) In the situation when the error is persistent even when you clear the fault register, the fault indicator will be reasserted. I think thatbasically phase difference between the Sin/Cos and Excitation signal is exceeding phase lock range of the AD2S1210 which by default is set to +/- 44degrees.
Please ask designer of the system to calculate the total phase shift between the excitation outputs and Sine/Cosine inputs to the AD2S1210. The phaseshift is introduced by the excitation buffer, resolver itself and any circuitry placed in front of the RDC including wires as well. Care should betaken that the total phase shift is not exceeding +/- 44 degrees.
Could you let me know if the standard method of clearing the fault clears the rest of the fault indicators in the fault register ?Setting bit D5 to ‘0’ in Control Register and check if the bit 1 is set in fault register. Bit D5 in control register program the Phase lock range ofinternal PLL and for evaluation purposes this value can be changed to 360 degrees. Please be aware that recommended value for the end application is+/-44 degrees however for now we may try different value.
