Why do I need to AC couple the audio signals at the input and output of the ICs?

AC coupling reduces unnecessary power consumption due to the DC component in the audio signal, and also maximizes the available signal input and output range. That said, it is important to make sure that the devices used are able to accept AC coupled signals.
