MAX5479 I2C Read option possible?


Q: I am trying to read the value stored in memory for the digipot, and noticed in the datasheet that the W/R bit for I2C command shows a NOP/W.  Does this part support I2C Read operation?

Ans: The MAX5477/MAX5478/MAX5479 do not support any I2C read operations. Throughout the datasheet, the I2C read/write bit is actually designated as “NOP/W” meaning that the I2C read command is a “No Operation” unsupported request. See Figure 4, 7, 8.
