Does the MAX5216 need to be set up upon power-up or can I expect to see results on the output after sending the 24 bits of configuration?

The MAX5216 does not need to be set up on power-up and you can begin sending codes as soon as the device is turned on. The two MSB's D23:22 are the control bits and determine the operation of the device and what is performed with the rest of the data in.
