AD5679R vs AD5679 (non-R version) Reference Voltage question

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: AD5679

Dear all

As the title indicates, I have a simple question regarding the AD5679 "family" of DACs.

According to the datasheet, the "non-R" version uses an external reference. I assume this means that it can EXCLUSIVELY use external precision references connected to the VREF pin.

However, the "R" version has an internal reference. My question is: Can I use the "R" version with an external reference, too? Or is the device limited to using its internal reference ONLY?

In other words, if I disable the internal reference am I allowing the chip to use an external reference?

I have used some DACs in the past that allow switching between references (like the AD5592R)

Thanks
