AD5142 Queries

Product Number: AD5142

Hi ,
can you please help me to understand the below points ?
Question on AD5412:
1. What is the failure mode of the AD5142 potentiometer ? If there is any hard failure or component failure lets say because of ESD application.. What will be the resistance between RAB ?
2. What is top scale and bottom scale specified in datasheet ?

  • Hi  ,

    2. The top scale and bottom scale resistance values shown in the datasheet is the resistance when you use the low wiper resistance feature. There is a section (page 23) in the datasheet that discusses the feature.

  • Hi Yokki,

    Thanks for the response.

    1. Failure mode - It is defined for some resistors - either open (ex: some wire wound resistor) or short in case of failure.

Since it is not a regular resistor, how to know the default failure mode. Failure can be because of any reasons lets say over current thru RAB, of Digi Pot IC failed due to exposure of ESD.

    2. I could not understand completely when I went thru first time. Thanks, I will go thru the data sheet again.

    Thanks,
