AD5934 - Problem to start a measurement

Thread Summary

The user is experiencing unexpected values (0x60 or 0x70) in the AD5934's 0x8F status register when attempting to start a measurement after configuration. The final answer requests more information for further troubleshooting. An accompanying answer suggests checking if the external oscillator is enabled by writing 0 into D3 of the 16-bit control register (0x80 and 0x81).

Hello

I am working with the AD5934. I am trying to start a measurement after configuration but, in the 0x8F status register, I get 0x60 or 0x70 (not mentionned in the spec).

Thanks in advance

  • Not sure if this is relevant specifically to the values in the status register, but are you enabling the use of the external oscillator by writing 0 into D3 in the 16-bit control register (Register Address 0x80 and Register Address 0x81)? Paradoxically, power-on value of D3 is 1, which is selecting the built-in internal oscillator as the source of clock for the chip, but the AD5934 does not have the built-in internal oscillator, so it cannot function until the use of the external oscillator is enabled.
