VDD above internal reference voltage

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: MAX5535ETC+

In the datasheet for MAX5535ETC+ there is a statement that VDD must be kept a minimum of 200 mV above Vref. What is the issue if Vref is set above VDD? For instance if VDD is 1.8 V and Vref is set to 1.940 V. Would this damage the part or have some large instability in the output?
