AD5165- Is the resistance retained in "standby" mode?

This digipot has a 50nA "standby" mode, but no where is it detailed what functions are available during standby mode.

Can you set the resistance and then go into standby mode with the resistance still active? What state does the device take if its shut off? I've never used digipots before and I'm considering one.

Also, Data Converts seems like a weird place for questions about digipots, but it's where the last question about this chip was and the menu didn't indicate a better place.

  • Hi,

The standby mode is the state of the AD5165 where it is idle and not performing any task or actions. The specified standby current of 50 nA is more like a quiescent current rather than a power down mode. SImply put, it is the amount of current consumed from the power source when the AD5165 is in powered but non-operating/standby state.

    So to answer your questions:

    A) Yes. The part automatically goes into standby mode, retaining the resistance while waiting for another command.

    A) The digipot does not have a shutdown mode.

If you have any further questions about digipots, you can post them in Data Converters or in Precision DACs.
