What is the Maximum input voltage /Maximum output voltage supported by AD5593r. As per the datasheet VDD = 2.7v to 5.5v and if I want to use external Vref can be 1 to VDD volt. It is clear from the datasheet  that  ADC/DAC can work in either 0 to Vref range or 0 to 2 Vref. My concern is like if I connect Vref to external 5v supply can I use ADC/DAC in the range of 0-10v. Is that possible ?

As I am using this for industrial application, my ADC/DAC should support 0-10v in voltage mode and 4-20mA in the current mode. To support these two modes is there any additional circuitry is required?

• Hi Gopal,

The maximum voltage on any ADC input pin should not be greater than that of VDD. If the input voltage is greater than VDD, it will damage the part.

You cannot use 0-10V input signal as input for the ADC. You will have to attenuate the amplitude to VDD before feeding it as an ADC input.

When, for example, if VDD=5V, and Vref=2.5V, the ADC input can be from 0-2.5V(Gain=1) and 0-5V(Gain=2). If Vref>2.5V then for gain=2, the voltage will be limited to 0-5V, and voltage above 5V should not be forced on the input. It might damage the part.

• But, as per the datasheet Vref can be set to 1 to Vdd where Vdd can be up to 5.5v . So, if we set Vdd is set to 5.5v and Vref to 5v which is less than Vdd. In such case what are the possible analog input range?

What is meant by attenuate the amplitude to VDD before feeding it as an ADC input? Can I understand it like divider in case of ADC (0 to 10v  can be attenuated to 0 - 5v) and multiplier in case of DAC (0-5v can be amplified to 0-10v) as per my requirement?
