The SPI clock input to the MAX11100 can be 24 consecutive pulses or three groups of 8 pulses. Often times, a microcontroller only supports 8-bit sequences of clock pulses. While the MAX11100 does require 24 clock pulses to provide a conversion, it is not necessary to provide 24 consecutive pulses without delays between bytes. The MAX11100 timing characteristics can be found in the electrical characteristics table of the datasheet. A snapshot of the timing characteristics and a timing diagram are shown below.
