Q What is the maximum glass thickness that can cover a PCB for Captouch using AD7142/3 or AD7147/8? A The sensors can operate correctly underneath a covering layer up to a maximum of 5 mm thick. Recommended thickness is 1 mm to 2 mm. The maximum thickness also depends on a number of factors like the size of the sensors or the material of the cover. Please note that we are recommending AD7147/8 for new designs since these parts provide larger response than the older AD7142/3.

Q Is it possible for the AD7142 to be used with a touch glass ? Is it possible to use the AD7142 for signature capture ? A The AD7142 can function through a certain thickness of glass (a few mm). I assume that for signature capture, it is necessary to measure a 2d position repeatedly to obtain an image of the pen trajectory. In this case the AD7142's suitability would depend on obtaining sufficient resolution in the 2d space and sufficient sample rate.
