Methode to estimate Rcable - 3-wire connection I need to Identify the cable resistance

Thread Summary

The user is evaluating the MAX31865 in a 3-wire configuration with a Pt100 sensor, including scenarios with zener barriers adding 20Ω series resistance and leakage current to GND. The final answer directs the user to Analog Devices' technical support pages for further assistance. The user mentions that a support ticket has been open for two weeks and asks how to check for updates on their request.

Hello,

in a current project we evaluate the use of max31865 in 3-wire configuration to measure temperature by Pt100 sensor.
The sensor is remote connected via cable of unknown length and in some cases the installation may have a zener barrier
installed in series in each of the three connections to the Pt100 (reason ATEX, intrinsic safety). The use of such a barrier
adds approx. 20Ohm series resistance to each wire. In case of these zener barriers there is also some additional leakage
current to GND in each of the three wires.

In usual single shot conversion, the device performs quit fine in both cases,
that is conversion algorithm inside the chip can deliver quite good results in both cases.

Question: Is there any method to read-out the value of the cable Resistance Rcable?

For example, do the manual error detection cycle1 and cycle2 and do any crazy math with the result register values?
Or do a series of 3-Wire and 4/2-Wire one-shot conversions and compare the result register value?
Or something else..?

thank you & greetings
