Regarding AGND and DGND connection

Category: Hardware

Hi Team,

I am using AD7655ASTZ. It has five ground pins: INGND, REFGND, AGND, DGND, and OGND.

As per the datasheet of AD7655,

DGND must be tied to the analog or digital ground plane depending on the configuration.

In the reference schematic of the AD7655, DGND is connected to AGND with an RC circuit.

What would be the best approach for connections of AGND and DGND? Should I connect both to the same GND or separate both grounds (AGND and DGND) with a resistor between them?

Is consideration of AGND and DGND important for any ADC, just like for a DAC?

  • Hi  ,

The recommended approach is to connect AGND and DGND together with a direct short connection very close to the ADC. A resistor between AGND and DGND is generally not recommended, as it can create ground voltage differences and degrade converter performance.

In general, AGND and DGND considerations are important for both ADCs and DACs. The goal is to minimize digital noise coupling into the analog circuitry while maintaining a common ground reference for the converter.

    Thanks,
    Francis
