To achieve 256 kSPS for 8/4 channels with 24 bit resolution, AD7768 or AD4134 are the best fit.

There is currently no smaller form factor for these. AD7768 is a 8/4-channel simultaneous sampling discrete-time sigma-delta ADCs. Using AD4134 will eliminate the need for an ADC driver and anti-aliasing filter which could help in reducing your board size.
