AD698 on Analog.com
Hi everyone,
My company has developed a board for LVDT signal measurement based on the Analog Devices AD698AP.
However, since this chip is now obsolete, and we plan to keep this product in production for the next 10 to 15 years, we are looking for a suitable alternative.
I noticed that other package variants of the AD698 are still available, but given that this chip is over 20 years old, I’m concerned about long-term availability.
Does anyone know of a more recent LVDT signal conditioning IC that is still in production and likely to remain available for the next decade? Any recommendations or experiences with newer solutions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,
I have moved your query to the Precision ADCs Community. Someone here will be able to assist you better.

Hi, PaulCA .
Thank you for moving this thread to the Precision ADCs forum.
Hi, LouisH .
If your concern is the longevity or the long-term solution, the AD598 and AD698 are still being used, and is seen, for the long-term use of applications. But to look further into this query, may I know what your application is and the specific details you are looking such as specs and size? In terms of application, does it only focus on the LVDT? If not, have you tried diving into our product, the AD2S1210 ?
Warm regards,
Jo
Hi NathanT ,
Thank you for taking the time to help me.
We are using this chip in a laboratory equipment design based on an LVDT position sensor. While size and cost are always considerations, the most critical factor in my application is measurement accuracy.
Although the AD698 is still in production, I’d prefer to base my design on a more modern solution that could potentially be cheaper and even more accurate. I was considering a multi-chip approach—using a dedicated sine wave generator along with one of your precision 24-bit A/D converters. However, I’m specifically looking for a chip that can process the analog signal from the LVDT sensor, similar to how the AD698 does.
Do you know if such a chip is available?
Hi, LouisH .
So, are you asking for another alternative of the AD698 and not another package of it. Is my understanding correct? If that is the case, we can transfer this to an email thread. Also, do you have a contact with your local FAE?
Warm regards,
Jo
Hi NathanT ,
I would like to know if Analog Device has developped any solution for LVDT sensor in the last 20 years, not necessarily a direct replacement of the AD698. I didn't see anything on your website. Is there any reason for that? Doesn't Analog Device wan't to support this kind of sensor anymore or is there a general purpose chip that could do the job?
Looking for the same answer to this question.
