AD5940: How can I active FIFO and ADC so that ADC starts to put data in FIFO? I'm trying to do that but if I read FIFOCNTSTA register then it gives me zero.

I'm trying to activate the FIFO and ADC in AD5940 so that the ADC starts to put the data in FIFO. I've followed the data sheet, initialized the system, enabled fifo and configured it and so did woth the ADC. 
 The FIFOCNTSTA register, which counts the number of words in data FIFO, gives me zero. Have any one had a similar problem? Or can guide me?
