AD5941 EIS 6 cell battery measurement

Hi,

Apologies if this seems a dumb question. Can I used the AD5840/5941 to perform Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy on a battery of cells?

I want to test a 6 cell lithium battery, as a minimum across the battery of 6 cells, ideally use more devices with multiplexers etc, to test each cell.

Looking at CN510 (very helpful by the way) if all cell measurements are AC coupled, it could work, measuring differentially across the cells?

Any advice appreciated.

  • Hi Akila,

I'd like to perform EIS of 12 battery cells.
Can you explain me deeply the opamp buffer?

Is it used to avoid drawing current from the cell?
Do you include each opamp buffer for each cell?
All the other components included in the CN0510 are represented inside the AD5940 block of your block diagram? For example, the gain stage made by the AD 8694 is it still included?

  • Hi,

     CN0510 block diagram:

The current flowing through battery is measured in order to get the battery impedance.

If CN0510 is used with an external mux for measuring multiple batteries,

a current buffer can be a part of this mux for each battery channel so that

it acts as a current follower where the current after mux follows or tracks the input current from battery without any undesired loading effect.
