I'm using multiple AD7779s in a measurement system. Currently I'm using Pin Config mode but need to use SPI mode in order to access some of the deeper configuration parameters. Ideally I want to use SPI to configure the device(s) and then collect data from Dout rather than SPI.
Table 17 in the datasheet suggests that this is possible if Format0 =1, Format1 = 1 and Register 0x014 is set accordingly.
Can anyone confirm is my suspicions are correct?
That-s correct. In that case you can use SPI to configure the AD7779 while the ADC data is clocked out through DOUT lines.
Note that when you are in SPI control mode, tables 18 and 19 are no longer applicable as these features are configured through the SPI interface instead.

Yes, if you look at table 38, daisy chain is available on DOUT mode.
