Dummy reads on the AD7825

I'm considering using the AD7825 but I will be needing to read from non-sequencial channels and at the time of a current read

I would not know which channel I will need to reading from next.

Is it possible to do a dummy read from the A/D with the address I would like to sample to set the address and then begin my sampling

of that channel?

I realize I would have to wait a min of 200nS before bringing convst* low.

  • yes you can do a dummy read from the part and then activate /CONVST to do the sampling. You don't need to use /CONVST to set a channel address. On the falling edge of /RD, the address is latched into the part. You can do as many reads as you want without having to do any sampling.

I hope this answers your question.
