EVAL-7993 not functioning - "Firmware Not Loaded!" error

I just received the EVAL-7993 and have installed the software and restarted my PC.   The application starts up and throws and message box indicating 'Firmware Not Loaded!.

I then hit the "Load Firmware" button on the GUI and the message box comes up 'Firmware Not Loaded!"

It looks like the software for the Cypress chip has a bug (show stopper).   Can someone walk me thru the steps to workaround the problem?

I did default install (used all the paths suggested by ADI) and there were no errors during the install.

Thanks,

Thom

  • Hi, Thom.

Let me check on this. I'll get back to you soon.

  • Hi, Thom.

Can you check on your Device Manager and see if you can find AD7993/AD7994 Evaluation Kit? Also, what OS are you working with?

    Regards,

    Karen

  • I show version 1.08 of AD7993_AD7994_Evaluation_Software installed.

I'm using Windows 7 64bit on a 3 month old (recently purchased) high end HP Laptop.   Win 7 is patched to latest.

I've sent the board down to a student I'm mentoring as we are hoping to capture a working i2c sequence with a protocol analyzer as the driver development has been a bit of a challenge.

If you have working i2c code that you can share, that might keep us moving forward as I believe the cypress USB chip may take a bit of debugging that is beyond what I can expend at this point.

I'm hoping the student can run the installer and it 'just works' and hopefully the problem is something to do with my laptop and not the board.

    Thanks,

    Thom

  • Hi, Thom.

Did you get the software from the AD7993 product page or did it come in a CD? I installed the evaluation software from the link and it shows v1.1. Can you try the installer from the product page?

    Regards,

    Karen

  • I installed off the CD.    I've shipped the board to a college student for his senior project and he ran the installer and got a different error - something about Labview runtime engine not found.   He has labview 2014 installed on his laptop.    It would be really great if we could get some source code to work with - this EVAL board looks like the it's got a few host side software bugs that I'd rather not get bogged down in.

Is there anyone at ADI who has interfaced the AD7993 or AD7994 to a processor and can share some sample source code?

    Thanks,

    Thom

  • Hi, Thom.

I suggest to have the student try the newer version of the installer downloadable from the product page that I linked to earlier.

    Karen
