I'm looking for an AD7997 kind of device (10 bit is good enough, speed doesn't matter that much, 8 channels are required) that can sample all channels in a sequence after getting a single I2C command (or a trigger signal on an additional pin).
From a software coding point of view it would be much easier to send a single trigger and then after a while being able to read back all results from all channels rather than sending a start conversion command for each channel individually.
I appreciate any kind of hint - could be a LTC devices as well

The AD7997/98 I think would fit your requirement. You may also check the AD7291(8 channel) These uses I2C interface. There is need to configure the register to enable the channels that will be converted then reading the conversion result but the master needs to write to the I2C bus to what channel it wanted to read next. There is another low power 8-channel that you may wanted to look into, the AD7091R-8, this is in a SPI interface. Please refer to the link.
