ad2s1210 input range adjustment

Our resolver output(sin+/-) exceeds the maximum input range of ad2s1210. For lowering this input, we inserted serial resister between resolver outputs and ad2s1210 input pins respectively , but the position data was distorted. How to do for adjusting signal within the range without corrupted results?

  • Hi,

I am checking on this. Get back you soon.

  • Hi kslimz,

When you say putting a resistor between resolver output and AD2S1210, does it mean including the SINLO and COSLO, SIN and COS pins? Putting components on this pin can cause changes or adjustment on the signal's phase or period. Slight adjustments can have great effect on the AD2S1210 result as the converter detects as it will be tracking the angle of both SIN and COS signals. The resistor used should be identical to maintain the balance. What resistor value are you using? What is the output voltage of the resolver, the AD2S1210 can accept 4.0Vpp maximum. Are the input signal distorted when the resistors were in placed? If possible, you can share scope shots of your input signal and result to have a better idea of your set up.

  • Hi Jonathan,

    First, I appreciate your response.

The serially inserted resistors are 10~100kohm, and

the larger the value is the input rage(voltage between sin/sin0 pins) gets more decresed,

but the position error is more increased.

For your reference, I'll attach the image which shows the angle position is distorted when serial resistors are inserted.

    (Resolver is rotating constant speed.)

Reviewing your advice and our experimental results, we acknowledged that it's not good to use the serial resistors.

but how to do in a case like that the sin/cos values are over maximum range(4Vp-p)?

  • Until now, unfortunately we could not solve our problem, i.e our resolver outputs are over the specified ad2s1210 input range. Anybody could give me a hand for our situation?

  • Hi Kslimz,

The resistor is quite high. Can you change or lower the resistor value below 4k.

    Jonathan
