On page 8-of-24 of theAD7766 Rev C data sheet, it states the Vdrive to DGND pin has an absolute maximum voltage of +6V.
On page 9-of-24, against the Vdrive pin (and throughout the document), it states the Logic Power Supply Input 1.8V to 3.6V - determines the operating voltage of the Digital Interface.
You might think that the Abs Max voltage might be 3.6V in that case - but it says 6V.
I have a 5V logic system and am hoping to not require Level Translators on the Input and Output signals. Two extra ICs are required.
If the Digital Logic Interface could handle 5-volt logic levels, the data sheet would stress it as a great feature. But it doesn't.
What happens if the Vdrive pin is set to 5-volts? It shouldn't damage the part as it is within the absolute maximum value.
Would it allow 5V logic levels?
Might it allow 5-volt tolerant inputs - but still 3.6V logic level outputs?
Thanks for the question. As mentioned, the Abs max is -0.3V to 6V, this means that the 5V Vdrive is within the abs max and this should not damage the AD7766.
The AD7766 specifications, as noted in table 2, was guaranteed at Vdrive = 1.8V to 3.6V. The performance is not guaranteed when Vdrive voltage outside the specified range (1.8V to 3.6V).
