AD9176: ACE could not find AD9176-FMC-EBZ

Hello,

Our customer has trouble in evaluating AD9176.
He is trying to do the "DC TEST MODE", he connects PC and AD9716-FMC-EBZ using a USB cable, without ADS8-V1EBZ.

The device manager finds AD9176-FMC-EBZ but the ACE software could not find it.
Please see "DeviceManager.png". The Device manager recognized it as "High-Speed DAC USB Evaluation Board(V2)".

But the ACE software could not find AD9716-FMC-EBZ. The icon of the AD9716 does not appear on ACE, pls see "ACE_notDetect_AD9176.png".

The .NET 3.5 Framework, I do not know it should need or not, it had been enabled on the control panel.

The operating system is Windows10 Pro (64Bit) 20H2, the customer installed it on his PC today and he installed "DAC_Setup_1.3.77.154_Full.exe" and "ACE 1.22.3063.1372".
(He did not install any other software)

Do you have ideas which other part should be check?
Could you give us your advice to find the cause of this trouble?

Best regards,

y_suzuki

    Hi,

Please check in ACE Plugin Manager if the AD971x plugin is installed. If not, you may click the link in the product page below to download the plugin update:

  • Hello,

Thank you for your prompt reply.
The AD917x plugin, 1.2020.8500, was installed.

    Are there any other checkpoints?

  • Hello Landsman,

I'm keeping his PC and evaluation boards from our customer.
I connected the PC to ADS8 and AD9176-FMC-EBZ using two USB cables.
And I operated according to Wiki user's guide.
I tested our two PC, which is used to support customer, they were works well, I could not duplicate this trouble.
Strangely this customer tested four PCs and he encountered same trouble on all PC.
The PC which I keeping is newly installed Windos10 before I get it.

Could you check the log file which I sent in the previous post?
I saw some error information in the log file.
I'm guessing the cause of the trouble is the consistency of the operating system on his PC.

    Best regards,

    y_suzuki

    Hi y_suzuki,

The AppLog suggests the issue is possibly with the SDP driver installation, or a conflict of the SDP drivers with something else installed on the PC. Maybe the customer site uses encryption on USB devices? Not sure. I had never seen an issue like this before.

Do you mean that you took the customer setup and was able to run it successfully on your own PC, but the same setup does not work on the customer's PC?

This suggests this is an installation issue. Please make sure to install as Admin or a Power User in Windows. Aside from this I am running low on ideas.

Here is my own PC with Win10. The AD917x-FMC-EBZ setup works well:

The screen shot you attached in the .zip suggests the board is recognized. Please confirm "(Local Only)" is NOT selected (underlined red) and the option in green is selected instead:

If this option exists, this means ACE recognized the board.

also please make sure you open DPG Downloader before trying to configure the board, to load the FPGA image onto the ADS7.

After this you can write 0x3C to reg 0x0 (enable 4-wire SPI) and check if it reads back the same:

  • Hello,

I Could access AD9176-FMC-EBZ correctly when I use "DPGLite".
I removed "DAC Software Suite" and removed all driver which are installed with "DAC Software Suite".
And I removed ACE and the drivers.
After that, rebooted the PC and installed only ACE with "High Speed DAC Components".
I could access AD9176-FMC-EBZ using DPGdownloaderLite and ACE.

    > Please confirm "(Local Only)" is NOT selected (underlined red) and the option in green is selected instead:

When I use "DAC Software Suite", I could select only "AD9176-FMC-EBZ(Local Only)" but the ACE could be selected "AD9176-FMC-EBZ" correctly when using DPGLite.

It looks like a conflict between SDP Drivers of "DAC Software Suite" and "ACE".
ACE Should use the SDP driver which is installed with "DAC Software Suite"?

    Best regards,

    y_suzuki

    Hi y_suzuki,

You should be able to use the DAC Software Suite (includes DPG Downloader). But you could also just install ACE with the HS DAC components and SDP drivers (which includes DPG Downloader Lite).

I have both installed on my machine without a conflict.

I could access AD9176-FMC-EBZ using DPGdownloaderLite and ACE

This is the most current way to run the Eval platform, for AD917x and other products. DPG Lite will continue to be updated, while development on DPGD has been frozen. Was the customer successful in using DPG Lite?

    Thanks,

    Landsman
