AD9446 Track and Hold operation

Thread Summary

The user asked about the Track and Hold function of the AD9446 ADC, specifically if the digital output is an integration or mean of the input signal over the 5ns high width of the clock. The final answer clarifies that the AD9446 captures the instantaneous voltage level at the start of the hold phase, not an integration or mean. The user then inquired about a part suitable for integrating current or voltage over 5ns, but no specific product was recommended in the final answer.

Hello,

I have a question concerning the Track and Hold function of the AD9446. Let assume my clock period is 10ns with 5ns high width. How the digital output given an analog signal is processed, does the output is an integration of the input signal over 5ns ? Or is it a mean of the input signal over 5ns ? Or something else ?

Thank you.

  • Hi

Thanks for your interest in AD9446.

The Track-and-Hold (T/H) function in the AD9446 ADC doesn't perform integration or averaging over the high period of the clock. During the track phase, the ADC follows the input signal. When the hold phase starts (usually at the clock’s rising edge), it captures the signal at that exact moment and converts this instantaneous voltage level into a digital value.
