LTC2485/LTC2487 - How to stop a conversion or prevent a conversion from starting.

Question

I am using both the LTC2485 and LTC2487 in an application. 
 When my I2C bus finishes reading the results of a conversion, a new conversion automatically starts. This locks me out from writing a new conversion configuration for upwards of 150 mS. 
 How do you prevent the conversion from automatically restarting upon reading a conversion result? 
 How do you cancel a conversion in process?

Looking at the flow chart of Figure 1 from the LTC2485 data sheet, there is no way around this. Once the data is read a new conversion is started.)
