AD9249 design resources

I am a novice in FPGA and electronic hardward designing. Now our team is building an 16-channel data acquisition system for ultrasonic applications, using AD9249 and Kintex-7 FPGA.

I want to use Vivado 17.4 software and verilog language to achieve 16-channel waveform acquisition. Here is my questions...

1. Is there any source code for AD9249 designing using Verilog HDL? Please provide Download-Link if it is available...

2. Is there any way using AD9249 and FPGA to realize dynamic data acquisition?

3. Do you have schematic diagram and PCB file about AD9249 evaluation board? I think I need this file as a design reference. If it is available, could you please provide to me?

Thank you.

  • Hi Mr. Wing,

Thank you for using the AD9249.

    1. Yes, I'll request that a link to the code be sent to you. It will take a few days.
    2. Could you please explain more about what you mean by "dynamic data acquisition"?
    3. The schematics to the AD9249 evaluation board are on the Wiki quickstart guide page: . Please scroll down to the "Design and Integration Files" section. There are links to the version with the Tyco connector (older version) and the version with the FMC connector.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Doug,

    Thank you for your reply.
I have already received your email and found the resources I need. I'm sure I will put it to good use. (ง •̀_•́)ง
About the second question, I think I should study your code carefully and think about this later....

And there is another question.... Can I use AD8331/AD8332/AD8334 Variable Gain Amplifiers as ADC drivers to drive AD9249?Is that a good design?

    Thanks again!

  • Hi Mr. Wing,

I believe the AD8331/AD8332/AD8334 are good designs, though I have not tried them myself. The applicability depends on your system needs.

What features do you need in your amplifier/driver? What is your maximum frequency of interest? If you are DC coupling, does the amplifier output common mode voltage match the ADC input common mode voltage requirements?

What features of the AD8331 family attracted you to it? I'm not knowledgeable on amplifiers but I can try to find the right amplifier support person for you after we better understand your requirements.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Dougl,

    Sorry for my late reply.

I appreciate your questions and patience, these questions inspired me a lot.

I have already made an AD8331 testing board by myself. After testing, I am sure that AD833X series of amplifiers meet my sensors’ requirements. It has a differential output and I found it’s suitable for our sensors and have a good SNR characteristic, so I try to put it on AD9249 as an ADC driver. I will try this design.

If there is any problem I will contact you again.

    Thank you very much.

  • Hi Mr. Wing,

That sounds good! I wish the best for you and your project.

    Please take care.
